A theatre beginning.
A group of performers and makers, brought together by the stage.
Indian films · Kolkata roots
For the love
of the art.
Rooted in theatre. Open to every story.
A film company for the art in all its forms.
From a stage.
Towards a world of stories.
01The company
Built by students.
Born from
the theatre.
Before there was a film company, there was a Kolkata theatre group—and a love for the stage that kept bringing us together.
Actors, writers and directors with a shared passion for performance. That is where Thread & Ash began. The company grew from the desire to take that work further, and to make Indian films with the same heart we brought to theatre.
We work hard because we love the making as much as the finished frame. Words, performance, image, sound, movement—every part of the art has a place here. Our beginnings are in Kolkata. Our imagination is free to wander.
A shared belief.
Hours of work, a love for the craft, and the desire to keep making.
A bigger canvas.
Indian films—and room for all the stories we have yet to discover.
02Our world
The whole of life.
The whole of the art.
The everyday and the extraordinary. The tender and the unruly. The remembered and the imagined. We want to make room for all of it.

An echo across time.
Old light. Handed-down stories. The things people carry in their hearts, long after the world around them changes.
Life, slightly off-script.
Crossed paths. Small accidents. Laughter at the least convenient moment. The beautifully unpredictable business of being human.
A few visual notes from our imagination. Inspirations, not project announcements.
“The love of the art came first.
The company is what we built so it could grow.”
